It is located in a small village called Nandigram, some 30 km from Bangalore. This village is surrounded by five hills – Nandi Hills, Brahma Giri, Vishnu Giri, Divya Giri, and Skanda Giri. The temple foundation is said to have been laid by Queen Ratnavali of the Banas in around 810 CE. Thereafter the temple underwent many additions and modifications, especially during the reign of the Vijayanagara kings. Bhoganandiswara Temple and Arunachaleswara Temple are twin Hindu temples complex located in Nandi village in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka, India. Ornate, beautifully carved, and dedicated to Shiva, they have been variously dated between the 9th- to 10th-century CE. The Bhoganandiswara is the northern temple of the twin. It is the oldest surviving temple in Nolambavadi-style Dravidian architecture in Karnataka. The Arunachaleswara temple was added to its south shortly thereafter. The complex underwent restorations and additions through the Vijayanagara Empire period. The temples are notable for their large and intricately carved sabha-mandapa, inscriptions, and artwork, much of it to Shaivism, but also significantly for Vaishnavism (Narasimha, Vishnu), Shaktism (Durga, Lakshmi), and Vedic deities (Surya, Agni). The temple is protected and managed as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India. HOW TO REACH BHOGA NANDISHWARA BY BUS I took a bus ride from home to Majestic Bus Stand. Thereafter I took a bus to Devanahalli. At the Devanahalli bus stand, I had to wait for some time looking for a bus to Nandi Cross. At Nandi Cross, there is an auto stand. They charge around Rs. 60 for a ride to the temple. It takes about 30 mins to reach the temple along the Nandi Hills Road.
