해외 한류 소식_샌프란시스코에서 열리는 BTS RM의 소장품전 BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon) has made his debut as a curator! For the first time, he’s bringing his personal art collection, built up over many years, to a museum, and he’s been directly involved in organizing the exhibition. Titled “RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me”, the exhibition is now on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. We are now connected with América Castillo, one of the SFMOMA co-curators who worked with RM to put this exhibit together. Welcome! Q1. I imagine things have been very busy since the exhibition opened. Could you give us an introduction to the exhibition? And what is the meaning behind the title, “Between You and Me”? Q2-1. It’s quite unusual for a museum to organize an exhibition centered on a K-pop artist’s personal art collection. What led SFMOMA to take an interest in RM’s collection and approach him with the idea? Q2-2. When you first met RM, what was your impression of him as an art collector? Q3. What was it like working with RM as co-curator? I understand that he was involved in everything from selecting the artworks and arranging the gallery space to writing exhibition texts and recording the audio guide. He even selected the music played throughout the exhibition. How has his unique perspective shaped the exhibition? Q4. Let’s delve into RM’s collection. It includes many works by modern and contemporary Korean artists, such as Yun Hyong-keun (), Chang Ucchin (), and Kim Yun Shin (). Are there any particular artists or works you hope visitors will pay special attention to? Q5. Alongside RM’s collection, the exhibition also features works from SFMOMA’s collection. Which works did you select to display alongside RM’s collection, and why did you choose to bring them together? (Works by artists such as Kim Whanki, Mark Rothko, Henri Matisse, etc.) Q6. SFMOMA has described this as the largest exhibition of modern and contemporary Korean art ever held in the United States. How have local visitors been responding? What has the response been like from people who aren’t BTS fans (as well as BTS fans) and are there any particular works attracting a lot of attention? Q7. From your perspective within the American art world, how much interest are you seeing in Korean art and culture these days? Q8. What role do you think exhibitions like this, centered on a popular culture artist, can play in introducing Korean art to a global audience? And how do you see international interest in Korean art developing in the years ahead? Thank you for connecting with us today, and we wish you all the best for the rest of the exhibition. And please say hi to RM from the 'K-Culture Dive' team, next time he stops by the exhibition. Thank you Bella as always, see you soon.
