Being hurt in relationships can change the way we show up in every relationship that comes after.
We may shrink ourselves, stop speaking up, isolate, over-attach, or question whether the kind of connection we actually want is even possible.
But, in my experience, healing relational trauma isn’t only about learning to trust other people again. A huge part of it has been learning to trust myself – knowing what matters to me, communicating honestly, honoring my boundaries, and trusting myself to navigate what happens when I put myself back out into the world.
In this conversation, I’m sharing some of my own experience with relational trauma, isolation, anxious attachment, and slowly giving myself new experiences of connection that have shown me relationships can feel different.
You don’t have to trust everyone. You don’t have to force yourself to feel safe.
But you can learn to know yourself deeply enough to recognize what feels aligned, speak up when something doesn’t, and trust yourself to navigate relationships one experience at a time. 🤎
If this conversation resonates, I’d love to hear what it brings up for you.
