JU Coach's Corner: Diego Vela

Jacksonville University track and field head coach Diego Vela begins a new chapter leading the Dolphins after more than a decade as an assistant coach at JU, with a focus on athlete development, relationships and success beyond competition. Join student producer Ifhmalee Caceuis-Francois, Class of 2028, as she explores Vela’s journey to becoming head coach, his coaching philosophy and his approach to creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive. Jacksonville track and field athletes also discuss Vela’s coaching style and the impact he has made on their experiences at JU. A native of Peru, Vela’s journey in track and field has taken him from training in Cuba to coaching with the Guatemalan National Team before arriving in Northeast Florida and eventually joining Jacksonville University in 2014.
