This Multani Kafi was immortalised by the great Ustad Salamat Ali Khan (1934-2001) whose vocal rendition continues to be sung across Punjab and beyond. This was his last track from our recording and I remember when he finished the set, he said something hilarious i'll never forget: "lo jee, jazz keh saath thora na-jazz bhi ho gaya". A play on the sounds of the English word, jazz, and the urdu/punjabi word جائز /jaiz, meaning permissible and ناجائز/ na-jaiz, not permissible.
