I am sharing Bic Runga's 1997 hit 'Sway' in memory of my mother, Edwa Lorraine Nijenhuis (nee Harwood,.who was of Ngai Tahu descent. Today the 28 March would have been mums 90th birthday. In September 2019, Bic re-recorded this song for Waiata / Anthems, a collection of re-recorded New Zealand pop songs to promote te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week). So this stunning stripped-back te reo Māo ri language version is the obvious choice for Edwa. I recorded all but one artist during the scorching eight hours of Auckland's heat and sun at Maranga Rise Up Aotearoa, so many more of my unique videos of Aotearoa's finest musicians will be added to this playlist. Like in the back-in-the-day fundraising TV telethons, this live broadcast by multiple channels raised on the day over $800.000 for the communities hit by the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle. My signature appears to be my wobbly starts but archiving the Aroha (Love) of the spirited crowd around me. Happy Birthday to my dearest mother, Edwa.
