Residência RN by Jacobsen Arquitetura is a contemporary lakeside home located in Itaúna, Brazil, designed as a family retreat for weekends and holidays. Set along the edge of a large reservoir, the project emphasizes a strong connection between architecture, landscape, and multi-generational living. Instead of following the common approach of building close to the water, the architects chose a higher and more recessed position, taking advantage of the site’s gentle slope to create wider, unobstructed views of the lake. This strategic placement enhances both privacy and the visual relationship with the surrounding landscape. A defining feature of the project is a large native Vinhático tree, around which the entire house is organized. The design creates a central landscaped courtyard, framed by social areas, verandas, and bedrooms—ensuring that every space enjoys direct views of nature. A wooden deck beneath the tree canopy connects the house seamlessly to the garden, reinforcing the sense of continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces. The layout follows an asymmetrical plan, balancing openness with functional zoning, while service areas and access points are carefully positioned along the edges. Materiality draws inspiration from the traditional Brazilian farmhouse, reinterpreted in a contemporary way. Granite is used in stone walls and flooring, while Freijó wood defines ceilings and interior panels, creating warm, tactile spaces filled with filtered natural light. Residência RN is a refined example of contextual architecture—where topography, vegetation, and materiality come together to shape a serene and immersive living experience.
