What was life actually like for the officials who ran ancient Egypt in the age of the pyramids? New Saqqara discoveries from October 2026 reveal their careers, their tombs and even their teeth.
In late October 2026, archaeologists announced the tomb of an official named Weni at Saqqara, while a Czech team rediscovered the tomb of Ptahshepses, who served four pharaohs of the Fifth Dynasty. Starting from those finds, this documentary follows the people of Egypt's Old Kingdom: the officials who collected titles, the scribes who ran the state, the herdsmen and craftsmen carved on tomb walls, and the crews who shipped stone for the Great Pyramid, recorded in the oldest inscribed papyri ever found. You will see what the Maxims of Ptahhotep taught about success, why tombs were built as houses for the ka, and how the Old Kingdom finally fell apart.
The most surprising fact: one of Egypt's earliest known officials, Hesy-Ra, held the title "chief of dentists and physicians". That means dentistry was already an organized profession more than 4,500 years ago. And the pyramid builders were not chained slaves, but fed and housed workers rotating in for state labor.
