GN Walkers Haute Route 2026 Day 11 Hotel Schwarzhorn - Randa (4K)

Prelude: I make my videos for my family. For my treks, it is for my children to follow the steps of their old man, and maybe one day they will plan for their own adventures and I hope this video will offer them some insights. The trailhead was right besides Hotel Schwarzhorn, how convenient. I met a French couple in their 60s. We chatted for 5-10mins and they are so cool. We will lap over each other for the next 2 days too. Today's highlight was Augstbordpass, and it wasn't difficult. I had the whole pass to myself so I stopped for an early lunch break. Then I made my way to a pretty long (not as long as Day 4) boulders hopping, before coming to a nice though narrow long balcony walk. Eventually, a turn opens up Matertal Valley, and after a series of switchbacks, I descended to Jungen where I took a cable car down to St Niklas. The cable car was unique, it will only move when there are 4 people in the car or at fixed timing. There is no instruction, no comms and no "lift button" - you just have to wait for one of the 2 events. From St Niklas, SV's clever plan was to train to Randa, which I will share more on the next episode. The hotel manager at Klein Matterhorn was... quite a character.
