In this relaxing history documentary, we journey into the remarkable story of the Jagiellon dynasty, the family that held Poland and Lithuania together for one hundred and eighty-six years and built one of the largest realms Europe had ever seen.
Born from a short parchment sealed at Kreva in 1385, the pagan Grand Duke Jogaila promised baptism, marriage to the child queen Jadwiga crowned as king in Krakow, and to join his Lithuanian and Ruthenian lands to the Polish crown with a single Latin word. Guided by interests, faith and paperwork as much as by love and war, his heirs faced a series of extraordinary tests that challenged their unity, courage and endurance.
We'll explore every major chapter of their story, from the baptism at Wawel and the death of Jadwiga in 1399 to the great victory at Grunwald in 1410, the debates at Constance, the loss of a king at Varna in 1444, the long war for Prussia and the Second Peace of Torun, the Nihil novi law of 1505, the kneeling of the last Grand Master in Krakow in 1525, the fall at Mohacs in 1526, and the final Union of Lublin in 1569. Along the way, we'll discover the roles of Vytautas, Wladyslaw III, Casimir IV, Sigismund the Old, Bona Sforza, Barbara Radziwill and Sigismund Augustus, and the many peoples who shaped one of Europe's most enduring political experiments.
From the forests of Vilnius and Trakai to the market square of Krakow and the hunting manor at Knyszyn, we'll follow the complete tale of ambition, consent and survival that assembled a vast Commonwealth from the Baltic to the steppe and outlived its own founders.
Told in a calm and soothing style, this video invites you to relax, unwind, and drift off to sleep while experiencing the timeless story of the Jagiellons and the world of late medieval and Renaissance Central Europe.
