Molitor war 1760 im schwäbischen Neckarsulm geboren und als Geiger über Venedig, wo er ein Orchester leitete, nach Wien gekommen. Dort hat er u.a. bei Beethovens Lehrer Abt Vogler gelernt. Eine Staats-Anstellung ermöglichte es, sich der Gitarre zu widmen und die Originalausgabe seiner eindrucksvollen Sonate enthält neben einer kompetenten Abhandlung zur Gitarre auch detaillierte Spielanweisungen. Lawall spielte das Werk erstmals in Reutlingen und im Schönstattzentrum Rottenburg Liebfrauenhöhe. Davor schon entstanden die Filmaufnahmen an zwei der eindrucksvollsten Orte der Ortenau: der Burgruine Hohengeroldseck und der Klosterruine Allerheiligen. Molitor was born 1760 in the swabian small town Neckarsulm and travelled as a violinist to Venecia, where he was head of an orchestra, before he went to Vienna. There he studied with Beethovens teacher Abt Vogler. A stateengagement allowed that he could dedicate to the guitar and the original edition of this masterworks contains a competent historical evaluation of the instrument and detailed tutorials. Lawall played the work first in Reutlingen and in the Schönstatt-center Rottenburg Liebfrauenhöhe.
