Warhammer 40,000, Mutant Chronicles, Warzone, Doomtrooper, Games Workshop, Chronopia, Siege of the Citadel, Paradox Interactive and the 90s tabletop boom all come together in this deep dive into the story of the Warhammer rival that refuses to die.
In 1993 a small Swedish games company printed its new role-playing game in English and went after the biggest name in the hobby. Within four years it had card games, board games, an award-winning miniatures wargame, novels, comics and a console shooter. Then the company went bankrupt, and for the next 25 years one publisher after another tried to bring it back.
This video tells the story of Target Games and Mutant Chronicles, from a Stockholm basement shop to Doomtrooper, Warzone's 1995 Origins Award, the 1999 collapse, a $25 million movie that made $6,820 in America, Kickstarter revivals from Prodos and Modiphius, and Warzone Eternal, along with how Paradox Interactive grew out of the wreckage.
Whether you played Doomtrooper or painted Warzone minis in the 90s, or you're discovering this grimdark universe for the first time, this is the full story.
