“Why did no one tell me?”
It’s a question that can come up when your body changes-and you’re left trying to work out what’s expected, what needs attention and where to find help.
In this episode of TRUE NORTH, I sit down with women’s health physiotherapist Heidi Barlow, known as @womenshealthwithheidi, for an honest conversation about pelvic floor health, pregnancy and recovery after childbirth.
We explore:
• What the pelvic floor does and how pregnancy and birth can affect it
• Bladder and bowel incontinence, including leaking during exercise
• Prolapse: what it means and the support available
• Pessaries and their role in pelvic health care
• Postpartum recovery and returning to movement
• Starting conversations about symptoms that can feel embarrassing
Heidi is the founder of Shire Women’s Physio and makes these subjects practical, approachable and easier to understand.
As a husband and a dad, I wanted this conversation to help partners understand more, too. Women shouldn’t have to carry the responsibility for that education alone.
If something in this episode makes you think, “I wish I’d known that earlier,” share it with someone who might need to hear it.
