Why Organic Farming Is So Hard To Scale | Ashish Lone | Founder | Kheti-Badi.com | ChaiNet

Ashish Lone has spent the last decade trying to solve a problem that sounds simple until you actually get into the field: how do you make organic farming work for small farmers and still get the produce to consumers? After 16 years across hotels, cruise ships and consulting, Ashish came back to India and started digging into what had happened to farming communities around him. That eventually became Kheti Badi. What makes this conversation interesting is how much of the business happens far away from the obvious stuff. Packaging, transportation, farmer training, certification, pre orders and even the timing of harvest can make or break the model. Ashish talks about spending years fixing these problems one by one, rather than throwing money at growth before the foundation was ready. We also get into why he stayed away from institutional funding for so long, why Kheti Badi deliberately worked with a limited number of farmers, and how the business eventually started going beyond fresh produce. There is also a fascinating thread around technology. Ashish had been thinking about blockchain for agricultural traceability years before it became fashionable, and today he is using AI to give organic farmers access to agricultural knowledge in their own languages. Thank you, Ashish, for being so open about the journey and the realities behind building Kheti Badi. From working directly with small farmers to building new tools through Mochai, there is clearly a lot more happening behind the scenes than most people see. Find Kheti Badi online and explore what they are building with farmers across India.
