The Harp of the God - Nordic Folk and Bard Music

The god of poetry puts down his cup, picks up his harp, and plays a stranger's whole life back to him - his battles, his home, his name. Movement five, the quietest and most solo of the seven. Harp carries the lead almost alone here, with the skalds joining underneath a phrase at a time. The palette is the northern one: harp first, with lyre, rebec, tagelharpa, pan flute and bukkehorn around it, over a frame-drum pulse. Voices are wordless throughout - chant and call, no lyrics in any language. 0:00 He Plays Your Battles 3:14 He Plays Your Home 6:18 Idunn Brings the Apples 9:47 Bragi Rises to Greet Him 12:42 The Harp of the God 15:38 He Plays Your Battles II 18:17 He Plays Your Home II 20:24 He Plays Your Name 22:38 The Skalds Join Softly 24:41 Idunn Brings the Apples II 27:08 Songs of Those Still Living 29:33 The God Bows His Head 31:53 Welcome, Says the Music 34:21 A Seat Kept Long for Him 36:52 The First Toast Raised 39:29 Bragi Rises to Greet Him II 42:46 The Harp of the God II 45:43 He Plays Your Battles III 48:22 He Plays Your Home III 50:35 He Plays Your Name II 53:09 The Skalds Join Softly II 55:42 Idunn Brings the Apples III 58:25 Songs of Those Still Living II 1:00:59 The God Bows His Head II 1:03:21 Welcome, Says the Music II 1:05:58 A Seat Kept Long for Him II 1:08:34 The First Toast Raised II 1:11:15 The Harp of the God III 1:14:14 He Plays Your Battles IV 1:16:51 He Plays Your Home IV 1:19:06 He Plays Your Name III 1:21:41 The Skalds Join Softly III 1:24:32 Idunn Brings the Apples IV 1:27:13 Songs of Those Still Living III 1:29:50 The God Bows His Head III 1:32:13 Welcome, Says the Music III 1:35:11 A Seat Kept Long for Him III 1:37:52 The First Toast Raised III 1:41:00 The Harp of the God IV 1:44:18 He Plays Your Battles V 1:47:08 He Plays Your Home V 1:49:33 He Plays Your Name IV 1:52:26 The Skalds Join Softly IV 1:55:35 Idunn Brings the Apples V 1:58:43 Songs of Those Still Living IV 2:01:35 The God Bows His Head IV 2:04:22 Welcome, Says the Music IV 2:07:22 A Seat Kept Long for Him IV 2:10:35 The Harp of the God V 2:14:05 He Plays Your Battles VI 2:17:04 He Plays Your Home VI 2:19:36 He Plays Your Name V 2:22:34 The Skalds Join Softly V 2:25:42 Idunn Brings the Apples VI 2:29:05 Songs of Those Still Living V 2:32:14 The God Bows His Head V 2:35:06 Welcome, Says the Music V 2:38:13 A Seat Kept Long for Him V 2:41:27 The Harp of the God VI 2:45:09 He Plays Your Battles VII 2:48:13 He Plays Your Home VII 2:51:00 He Plays Your Name VI 2:54:14 Idunn Brings the Apples VII 2:57:41 Songs of Those Still Living VI 3:00:59 The God Bows His Head VI 3:04:07 Welcome, Says the Music VI 3:07:36 A Seat Kept Long for Him VI Part of ASKLAND, a Norse music world built one album at a time.
