Sustainable infrastructure is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change. However, there is a significant gap between the demand and supply of sustainable infrastructure financing in developing countries. An estimated $15 trillion of additional investment is needed by 2040 to meet the infrastructure needs of low- and middle-income countries. Against the backdrop of COP28, this panel will discuss key issues and barriers that hinder private sector participation in sustainable infrastructure and how collaboration among institutions such as MIGA, IDB Invest and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation can help overcome them.
