From cigarette-pack tobacco cards to the bubble gum cards of the 1950s, this episode explores two extraordinary baseball card collections, each preserving the faces of the game’s greatest stars exactly as fans first saw them.
⚾ Tobacco Card Collection (1910-1912) - More than 345 cards from two of the most celebrated sets of the era, the T206 and the T202 Hassan Triple Folders. The T206 cards in this collection carry the scarcer American Beauty back, including a Ty Cobb highlight, alongside stars like Christy Mathewson and Cy Young. The Hassan Triple Folders feature a player portrait on each end and a game action scene in the center. Many cards remain bright, sharp, and in extraordinary condition.
⚾ Topps Baseball Cards (1954-1956) - A collection of cards from the early Topps years, including the rookie cards of Hank Aaron and Sandy Koufax. It also features Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Yogi Berra, Warren Spahn, Ernie Banks, Roberto Clemente, Harmon Killebrew, Al Kaline, and Monte Irvin. Bought by children for a penny or a nickel and often lost to shoeboxes and playgrounds, cards like these are rarely found in good condition.
Together, these collections capture baseball’s earliest eras and the legends who defined them. Discover what makes these rare cards so valuable to collectors today.
