I recently discovered that Victron’s Cerbo GX (running Venus OS Large) includes built-in Node-RED support… and it completely changed how I think about RV and van automation. In this video, I walk through the intelligent automation system I built for my 2025 Tiffin GH1 using: Victron Cerbo GX Node-RED SmartShunt SOC monitoring VE.Bus inverter/charger control Shore power detection Ruuvi Bluetooth temperature sensors The goal was simple: Automatically switch my MultiPlus-II between “On” and “Inverter Only” modes based on battery state of charge — but ONLY when shore power is actually connected. Along the way, I discovered some important nuances with Victron’s VE.Bus signals and Active Input detection that I think will help a lot of other Victron owners. In this video I cover: • Enabling and accessing Node-RED on the Cerbo GX • Reading SmartShunt SOC values • Integrating Ruuvi Tags over Bluetooth • Building logic flows in Node-RED • Delayed triggers and reset logic • Preventing repeated VE.Bus commands • Correctly detecting real shore power presence • Automatically controlling inverter/charger modes This opens the door to some seriously advanced RV and van automation directly on the Cerbo GX without needing Home Assistant or external controllers.
