After so many days of hard work, waiting, and overcoming numerous challenges in Cambodia, I’ve finally received clearance to depart and head back to Vietnam! 🥰🚢 I can’t even begin to describe the joy I felt holding that departure order. This demanding voyage has finally come to an end; now, I just hope for smooth sailing on the journey home. My barge pulled away from the port, heading back toward the "Four-Faced River" (Chaktomuk)—the spot in the heart of Phnom Penh where major rivers converge. Navigating this vast expanse of water, surrounded by a bustling flow of river traffic, I truly grasped just how vibrant the waterway transport is here. Along the way, I had an incredibly unexpected and meaningful encounter: I ran into my parents’ three-engine barge! ❤️ Seeing the vessel—into which my father poured so much of his heart and soul—sailing proudly along this great river filled me with a mix of joy, deep emotion, and immense pride. My parents have invested so much effort and dedication into that boat. Encountering my family’s barge in a foreign land felt so incredibly comforting and heartwarming! As night fell, Phnom Penh revealed a completely different side of itself. High-rise buildings glowed with brilliant lights, and structures along the riverbank cast shimmering reflections upon the water. The entire city seemed to don a colorful cloak, creating a scene that was both grand and poetic. I’ve passed through Phnom Penh many times, but every time I view the city at night from the deck of my barge, it stirs a unique, personal emotion—with the bright lights of the modern metropolis on one side, and the vast, sweeping river—dotted with vessels quietly coming and going—on the other. All of this comes together to form a stunning picture—one that not everyone gets the chance to see from the unique perspective of those who make their living on the waterways. That’s the life of working on a barge! There are days spent in weary anticipation and voyages filled with worries, but in return, there are truly memorable moments along every stretch of the journey. This recent trip to Cambodia has left me with so many wonderful memories. And now, the journey back home officially begins!
