BASS ZERO #02: The Beautiful Logic of the Fretboard

In the first two lessons, we focused on the four open strings (E-A-D-G) and learned how to keep the bass in tune. Now it's time to open up the entire fretboard. Despite first appearances, the bass isn't a chaotic collection of notes. It's a beautifully consistent pattern built from just twelve repeating pitches. In this lesson, we'll explore half steps, full steps, the complete twelve-note cycle, and several foundational note relationships—including octaves, fourths, and fifths—that every bass player should recognize. You'll also discover why the fretboard itself is wonderfully logical, while the language of traditional music theory can sometimes make it seem far more complicated than it really is.
