As mothers, we want to believe our children are safe—especially in the places and around the people we trust most. But protecting our children means having conversations that may feel uncomfortable, including conversations about consent, body boundaries, safe and unsafe touch, and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.
In this episode of The Mamas Who Brunch Podcast, we’re talking about why teaching consent starts at home—and why these conversations are important even within families, friendships, schools, and church communities.
We discuss:
• Teaching children that their bodies belong to them
• Helping children understand consent and personal boundaries
• Why we shouldn’t force children to hug, kiss, or show physical affection
• Teaching the difference between surprises and unsafe secrets
• Creating a home where children feel safe telling us anything
• Recognizing grooming behaviors and inappropriate boundary-crossing
• Why trusted adults should still respect a child’s boundaries
• Protecting children without teaching them to live in fear
• Why churches and ministries must prioritize accountability and child safety
• Empowering our children to speak up—and making sure we listen when they do
Faith should never be used to silence a child, protect an adult’s reputation, or discourage a parent from asking questions. As mothers, we can raise children who are loving and respectful while also teaching them that they have a voice, that their boundaries matter, and that they can always come to us.
Protecting our children isn’t about living in fear. It’s about giving them the language, confidence, and safety they need to speak up.
Join me for this important conversation as we talk about raising children who know they are deeply loved, worthy of protection, and allowed to have boundaries—even in spaces we consider sacred.
