Jack’s Rake - Pavey Ark - Thunacar Knott - High Raise - Sergeant Man - Langdale Pikes Lake District

Awesome day out on the Langdale Pikes in the Lake District. Headed clockwise from Dungeon Gill Hotel Car Park up to Stickle Tarn, then scrambled Jacks Rake to Pavey Ark 2288ft. Pavey Ark is the grandest cliff in the Langdale Pikes. It towers above Stickle Tarn, and, with a tiny summit of its own, was regarded by Wainwright as a separate fell. It is perhaps best known for the impressive Jack's Rake, a scramble that follows a slanting route up the great face. Continued on to Thunacar Knott 723m/2372ft is the highest point of the moorland rising behind Pavey Ark, with only slight descents before the ground rises again to the Ark, to Harrison Stickle to the south, or to High Raise to the north. It is a very undistinguished objective. We Then continued next to High Raise 762m/2500ft which is the highest of the Central Fells and is at the very heart of the district. Altitude isn't everything, however, and this great dome lacks any great interest, being a much inferior objective than the Langdale Pikes on its southern rim. Finally we continued on to Sergeant Man 736m/2414ft which is really just a knobble of rock on the southeastern slopes of High Raise but it is so prominent and distinctive that it is as worthy an objective for a fellwalk as its parent.
