Full-length story on the work at the Centre for Indigenous Fisheries.
At the Centre for Indigenous Fisheries (CIF), science isn’t separate from story, it’s rooted in relationship. Their work reminds us that Indigenous science isn’t just equally important, it’s essential to meaningful research and understanding. For too long, we’ve looked at the world only through a Western scientific lens. It’s time to honor the ancient wisdom that has guided people and ecosystems since time immemorial. This is why Two-Eyed Seeing is so crucial. It invites us to incorporate multiple ways of knowing, leading to more grounded, reciprocal, and impactful results.
Through conversations, relationship-building, and a week immersed in CIF’s retreat, le colibri STUDIO listened, learned, and witnessed their work — not just to create a video, but to reflect who they are and share the care, knowledge, and collaboration that define their approach to science.
It was an honor to collaborate with and be in the presence of such caring, humble, and deeply thoughtful people. If only more of the world worked as CIF does, with humility, respect, listening, and awareness.
The team at CIF is changing the way we see science, academia, and the world itself. Their work gives me hope. This is a reminder that there are places where care and knowledge move together, like a school of salmon. 🌊🐟
