Meet Tooro’s Next King — George Desmond Kamurasi.

Andrew Mwenda, who for some reason appears to be acting as a spokesperson for the Tooro Kingdom, says the Royal Succession Committee of the Tooro Kingdom met on September 4, 2026, at Fort Motel in Fort Portal City and selected George Desmond Kamurasi, 36, as the next King of Tooro. Kamurasi, who is of Ugandan royal descent from the Babiito clan, is a UK-based sports coach and director. According to the reports, he was selected by the 21-member Royal Succession Committee, with 15 members voting in his favor. He is expected to succeed his late cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died in Texas, USA, on August 26, 2026. However, the reported succession has already sparked debate, particularly over claims that the throne should instead pass to King Oyo’s infant son. That raises a much bigger question: what does Tooro’s traditional succession process provide for in a situation like this?
