The Fortress Above Weymouth

Rising above the entrance to Weymouth Harbour, Nothe Fort has watched over the Dorset Coast for more than 150 years. In this aerial journey, we explore the remarkable Victorian Fortress from above, from distant views across Weymouth Bay to close-up views of its massive stone walls, distinctive curved defences and coastal setting. Built by the Royal Engineers in the 19th century as part of Britain's coastal-defence network, Nothe Fort was designed to help protect Portland Harbour from attack. Its story continued through the World Wars and into the Cold War, leaving behind a remarkable piece of Britain's military heritage. I also take in Weymouth's beach, Harbour and Marina, showing the extraordinary setting in which this historic fortress stands. Filmed from the air in and around Weymouth, Dorset in March 2025.
