ANTHONY “THE HITMAN” VELLA vs LOUIE “THE ICE” IOSIFIDIS 🥊🔥 THE FIGHT THAT CHANGED AUSTRALIAN FIGHTING! 🔥🥊 🏆 Australian Muay Thai Title 📍 Rumble at the Radisson – Melbourne 📅 May 1995 This wasn't supposed to happen. Undefeated Australian Muay Thai champion Anthony “The Hitman” Vella walked into the Radisson Hotel as a massive underdog against one of the hottest fighters in Australian combat sports, Louie “The Ice” Iosifidis. Louie was already a kickboxing champion, holding South Pacific, Commonwealth, and Australian kickboxing titles, and had built a reputation as one of the most dangerous pure kickboxers in the country. But there was one major difference… 🥊 This was Muay Thai. And it was Louie's first-ever Muay Thai fight. Anthony Vella had only about 10 fights at the time, while Louie came into the contest with far more experience and a reputation that made many people believe the result was almost a foregone conclusion. Anthony later recalled people telling him they had bet on how many minutes he would last, not whether he would win or lose. But Anthony and his trainer John Scida believed they had a plan. Anthony knew Louie was the superior boxer and kicker. His advantage was Muay Thai, particularly the clinch, grappling, and the longer three-minute rounds. His belief was simple: “If I could last the first round, I would win.” And then the impossible happened. 🔥 What followed became one of the most talked-about fights in Australian combat sports history. A true Rocky-style underdog story. A Muay Thai champion defending his title against Australia's hottest kickboxing champion. Two different fighting styles. Two champions. One ring. And a fight that helped change the way Australian audiences viewed Muay Thai and kickboxing. Ultimate Promotions later described Vella's victory over Iosifidis as one of the defining moments of his career, a Muay Thai vs kickboxing matchup that demonstrated the effectiveness of Muay Thai and helped establish Vella as one of Australia's standout fighters of the era. Anthony Vella's record around this period was remarkable. In a later interview, he recalled having 20 fights for 19 wins, with his only defeat coming by injury against Paul “The Hurricane” Briggs. And for Louie “The Ice” Iosifidis, this fight became the final chapter of his fighting career. Louie trained under respected martial artist and trainer Bryce Birtwistle, who also worked with other Australian legends, including Dale “Diamond” Westerman and Mark Castagnini. 👇 WATCH THE FULL FIGHT AND TELL US — WHERE DOES THIS RANK AMONG THE GREATEST FIGHTS IN AUSTRALIAN COMBAT SPORTS HISTORY? #FightRewind #FightRewind1 #AnthonyVella #TheHitman #LouieIosifidis #TheIce #MuayThai #Kickboxing #AustralianMuayThai #AustralianKickboxing #MuayThaiAustralia #AustralianFightHistory #RumbleAtTheRadisson #1995 #ClassicMuayThai #ClassicKickboxing #OldSchoolMuayThai #OldSchoolKickboxing #FightHistory #AustralianFightLegends #JohnScida #UltimateMuayThai #UltimatePromotions #MuayThaiChampion #KickboxingChampion #TheFightThatChangedAustralianFighting
