Continuing our reimagining series, this mix revisits the soundtrack of Street Fighter Alpha 2, composed by Setsuo Yamamoto, Shun Nishigaki, and Tatsuro Suzuki for Capcom's CPS2 hardware in 1996. As a natural continuation of the Alpha series' musical identity, the score built on the softer, more melodically expressive foundation of its predecessor, a deliberate contrast to the harder-edged rock and funk that had defined Street Fighter II. Approached through the lens of Japanese jazz fusion, these reinterpretations focus on the harmonic depth and rhythmic elasticity already embedded in the original compositions. The score's melodic clarity and wide dynamic range translate naturally into a live ensemble context, allowing its themes to unfold with greater phrasing and expressive contrast. The result draws out the warmth and sophistication that always lay beneath the arcade surface, revealing a musical identity that was reaching toward jazz long before it was ever framed that way.
