Autumn jazz noir for rainy nights: 90 minutes of dark, smoky 1940s jazz with rain on the window and the Manhattan skyline glowing through the storm.
November, 1947. The rain started at dusk and never let up. From the apartment window the trees along the avenue burn orange under the streetlamps, and the skyline floats in the wet dark like something you could almost reach. Down on the side street the leaves stick to the pavement and the puddles hold every lamp in the block. Across town, one office light is still on: a man in a fedora, a stack of case files, a green lamp and a window full of rain. Nobody is going anywhere tonight.
Ninety minutes of autumn jazz in the old noir style: muted trumpet, breathy tenor sax, felt piano, upright bass and soft brushed drums. Slow, warm and a little melancholy, made for reading, studying, working or falling asleep to the rain.
