I grew up going to church because my parents required it. But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, my relationship with God became complicated.
There were times when my faith was strong, times when I barely acknowledged God, and even a period when I turned away from Him completely.
For much of my life, I knew about God, but I didn't truly know Him.
Then, in January 2024, during one of the darkest periods of my adult life, something happened that changed everything.
I was struggling with unemployment, financial uncertainty, depression, and an increasing dependence on alcohol to cope with life's challenges. In that darkness, I experienced what I believe was the unmistakable voice of the Holy Spirit calling me to make a change.
I stopped drinking, picked up my Bible, and began studying God's Word in a way I never had before.
What followed was a transformation in my understanding of faith, God's love, and His presence in my life.
In this deeply personal episode of my Countdown to 60 series, I reflect on the faith I inherited from my parents, the years I spent wandering, my father's final words to me, and how I came to understand that even after losing both of my earthly parents, I have never been without a Father.
My relationship with God has changed. And today, as I approach 60, my faith is stronger than it has ever been.
I'd love to hear from you: Has your relationship with God changed as you've gotten older? Have you experienced seasons of doubt, distance, or renewed faith?
Thank you for being part of this journey.
