I set out to run from the water at Porteau Cove all the way to the water at Deep Cove—in a single day. The journey took me 72.06 km (44.8 miles) through the mountains north of Vancouver, with 4,589 m (15,056 ft) of elevation gain and nearly 20 hours of elapsed time. The route travelled through dense coastal forest, rugged mountain peaks, exposed ridgelines and incredible views overlooking Howe Sound. What I planned to complete in 14–16 hours eventually carried me through approximately seven hours of darkness. Doing this solo meant having no support crew and no one waiting to resupply me. Navigation problems, wrong turns, forgotten trekking poles, encounters with bears and the accumulated physical and psychological strain turned this into one of the hardest days I’ve experienced in the mountains. This film documents the beauty, difficulty and reality of attempting a challenge that pushed me far beyond what I expected. If you enjoy mountain endurance, self-reliance and honest adventure films, subscribe and join me for the next journey. SAFETY NOTE: This video documents my personal experience and is not intended to serve as a route guide. My journey included highway crossings and a short section along the shoulder of the Sea to Sky Highway, where fast-moving traffic and limited space can make travel extremely dangerous. Research current conditions, access restrictions and safer alternatives; remain highly visible; follow all posted signs and local laws; and never attempt a route beyond your experience or preparation. #TrailRunning #MountainAdventure #UltraRunning
