Hello Everyone,
Gameplay starts: 5:10
Today we're taking on chapter 4 which introduces the first real decision we can make in our playthrough. Specifically, we need to decide who gets the Marth and Sigurd rings to build up bond rank in preparation for the upcoming chapters. Bond fragments are tight in the early game so this choice is non-trivial if you don't have the DLC bond fragments which I will be trying not to use. I do use the FEH free DLC weapons and bond rings which are important for the next few chapters.
Alear is the only real candidate for getting Marth since she can get bond rank 5 after we get a few kills this chapter. Alear will want to start Mercurius farming as soon as possible so we continue pairing her with Marth as she benefits from the bond stat bonuses and Divine Speed to hit her thresholds.
Sigurd is a more contested pairing since both Vander and Alfred can get the +2 movement bonuses once engaged. This is the only way we can reach Rodine quickly and clear the map fast so the choice is between the two calvary units. Edit: this is not actually true, you can get a 4T rout with Sigurd on Alear (thank you to @felt3511 for giving me a reference video for this), but I chose to keep Marth on Alear for this chapter.
Alfred makes a good case for Sigurd if you want momentum on him for Chapter 5. Alfred can get a few kills this map and with ring polishing go into Chapter 5 with Momentum available or at least very close to it. On the other hand, Vander gains barely XP and bond rank on this chapter due to his internal level so he will almost never have Momentum this early in the game. We still choose Vander since he has +1 move as a promoted Paladin compared to Alfred which allows him to reach Louis on T1 and trade him the Fensalir which is necessary for this strategy.
Overall, this strategy is adapted from Felt's 4T rout of this map with some adjustments for XP distribution. After we setup the kill on Rodine on T4, we can rout the map easily by having Vander take out the Mage with Noatun and then blocking Rodine's ability to reach Celine with Louis. The issue here is that Rodine will choose to attack Vander on his final turn, losing Louis 20 XP. Louis' XP is tight as he has thresholds he needs to hit before chapter 6, so I forego the rout in order to give him more XP.
Thanks for watching and see you in the next one!
