I show you how doubling the thickness of insulation halves the capacitors value. It's probably only telling you what you already know but it's a practical demonstration of the fact that confirms the theory. The insulation material is 0.1mm thick Kapton it's a polyimide material. The capacitor has 13 plates in all and is connected with 6 plates to one terminal and 7 plates to the other terminal. The amount of overlap of the copper sheets, the effective capacitive area, is about 44mm by 40mm for each overlap and this configuration gives 12 overlapping sections so the active area is 44 X 40 X 12 = 21120 square mm.
