On the fourth of October, nineteen ninety two, Mohammed Benaziza won a professional bodybuilding contest in the Netherlands. He was found dead in his hotel room at six that
evening. He was thirty three years old. There is no published autopsy. There never was. That single absence is why this case is still argued about more than thirty years later, and why this video does not close it either. What is documented is unusually specific. At the prejudging he was visibly ill. Porter
Cottrell, a fellow competitor on that tour who worked as a firefighter and a licensed emergency medical technician, described him leaving the stage more than once,
vomiting violently. He was urged to go to hospital and refused several times. He had placed fifth at the Mister Olympia only weeks earlier and had not rested before flying out
to compete again. What is not documented is what killed him.
Three separate explanations exist. The dehydration account that the sport took away from his death and still repeats. A second account, held by people from that generation,
in which his potassium was already dangerously high rather than depleted, and standard treatment made things worse. And a third claim from early reporting about an injection before the contest. No document supports the second. The third has less behind it than that. Even the town where he died is reported differently depending on the source. His death, together with the death of Andreas Münzer four years later, led the federation to introduce testing for diuretics at professional shows. That part is not in dispute. Every claim in this video is mapped to a source, and every uncertainty is stated as one.
