I really enjoyed spending time with Wairimu in Laikipia because hers is one of those stories that reminds you just how much life can change when you decide to give yourself another chance. At 45, she is embracing a completely different chapter of her life. She has known what it means to lose a job when you desperately need one, to go through financial difficulties and to have moments where you have to figure out what comes next. But she has also learned how to pick herself up, start again and build a life that feels right for her. Today, she has this beautiful wild space in Laikipia where she can escape the chaos of the city, slow down and enjoy life differently. She also co-owns a horse riding school, something she got into after questioning why Africans are so often excluded from spaces and experiences that exist right here on our own land. Our conversation goes into money, starting over, our relationship with the resources we have as Africans, horses, land, life at 45 and why sometimes you have to stop waiting for permission to change your own life. I hope Wairimu’s story reminds someone watching that wherever you are in life, you can always make a different decision and start again. Welcome to another episode of Reclaiming Our Identity Through the Soil, as we continue exploring what it means to live a slower, more intentional and conscious life.
