Danny Tan's Throwback #181
February 4, 1999: LANI MISALUCHA poured out her soul in this version of "Magbalik Ka Na Mahal", a performance tugging at your heartstrings. To infuse Indian flavor into my own arrangement of this Ryan Cayabyab - Bien Lumbera classic, I used a "tabla" - a pair of twin hand drums from the Indian subcontinent - to accompany the haunting vocals of Ms. Lani Misalucha. The masterful acoustic guitar work of Mr. Ric Mercado was so beautifully played, makes me so proud to have worked alongside the Philippines' best musicians!
BACKSTORY: Produced by Ms. Ayen Munji-Laurel's SK Entertainment, RAMA AT SITA - The Musical premiered on February 4, 1999 at the University Theater, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. The musical was a huge hit! Every performance was fully packed!
Pre-production of RAMA AT SITA - The Musical involved the production team traveling to India through the generosity of SK Entertainment. We immersed ourselves in Indian culture by visiting Taj Mahal, The Pink City of Jaipur, Ganges River, New Delhi, Mumbay, and other notable places. We tremendously enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience! Thank you, Ayen and Chang!
