Breaks Interstate Park in Virginia- "THE GRAND CANYON OF THE SOUTH"

If you're looking for a camping destination that offers breathtaking mountain scenery, plenty of things to do, and a chance to get away from the crowds, Breaks Interstate Park in Virginia is a place you need to put on your list. Established in 1954, Breaks is one of only two interstate parks in the United States and stretches across the Virginia-Kentucky border. Covering roughly 5,000 acres, the park is known as the “Grand Canyon of the South,” thanks to the spectacular Russell Fork Gorge carved through Pine Mountain. Breaks Interstate Park has something for just about everyone. You’ll find a visitor center and museum, lodge accommodations, cabins and cottages, a restaurant, amphitheater, seasonal water park, and a campground with 138 sites ranging from tent camping to RV sites with hookups. With more than 25 miles of hiking trails, scenic overlooks, Laurel Lake, and plenty of opportunities to explore, you could easily spend several days here without running out of things to see and do. One of the most unique experiences is the park’s guided elk tours, giving visitors a chance to see the elk that have been successfully restored to this part of Virginia. Bordering Virginia and Kentucky, Breaks Interstate Park still feels like one of those special places that many travelers haven't discovered yet.
