England Road Tours - A3400 Monkspath to Chipping Norton

Today's road tour takes us along the A3400, formerly the A34, from Monkspath near Solihull, southeastwards to Chipping Norton via Stratford-upon-Avon. The road also passes through Hockley Heath, Henley-in-Arden, Woottoon Wawen, and Shipston-on-Stour along with smaller villages in Warwickshire. The road becomes the A44 from Chipping Norton towards Oxford. This route was originally part of the A42 in the original 1922 numbering convention, stretching from Oxford to Birmingham. In 1935, a shake up in the road numbering led the A34 to be extended all the way to Manchester, relieving the A42 section of its number. With the completion of the M40 motorway, the A34 was rerouted to Junction 9 at Oxford, and split into two, with the A3400 taking the old route from Monkspath to Chipping Norton as it is today. The A44 label was then extended to Oxford along the old A34 route. Filmed August 2024
