Home Assistant 2026.10 - This Just Got MUCH Easier

Home Assistant 2026.10 brings some big improvements to maps, automations, dashboards, AI, Modbus and more, with several existing Home Assistant features becoming considerably easier to actually use. In this video, I take you through the most important changes in the October 2026 Home Assistant update, starting with the completely revamped Map experience, including redesigned people and zone markers, location activity and the new map interface. Automations also get an important usability improvement in that Home Assistant can now manage trigger IDs for you, making it much easier to create automations that perform different actions depending on which trigger started them. Dashboard visibility conditions have become considerably more powerful too, with support for conditions including templates, sun, zones and devices, along with much better visibility into why a card is or isn't currently being displayed. There's also a much easier way to configure Home Assistant's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for connecting AI applications such as ChatGPT and Claude, a new Modbus connectivity panel, improved timer controls and presets, template climate entities and plenty of smaller quality-of-life improvements. And as always, we'll finish with the breaking changes you should check before updating, including changes affecting MQTT, Synology DSM, Proxmox and Telegram Bot. Home Assistant 2026.10 is scheduled for release on 7 October 2026. This video is based on the beta release, so individual features may change before the final release.
