A former US Citizenship and Immigration Services officer has been arrested and charged over an alleged years-long scheme to sell immigration benefits, including green cards. Prosecutors allege Lukman Owolabi Ganiyu used his position to approve and expedite applications in exchange for money, bypassing required federal procedures. Ganiyu and alleged co-conspirator Adeniyi Akeem Somoye are accused of collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars through bank transfers and digital payment platforms. Prosecutors allege the scheme involved permanent residency, family sponsorship, naturalisation and other immigration applications, with investigators also citing unexplained cash deposits and payments.
