Dave Wannstedt: Replacing Mike Ditka, Jimmy Johnson & Building the Team You Want to Coach | EP 14

Former NFL head coach Dave Wannstedt joins Jason Garrett on Coach2Coach to tell the stories and share the leadership lessons behind a lifetime in football. Wannstedt reflects on growing up in the football-rich culture of Western Pennsylvania and the legendary players produced by Pittsburgh, his years alongside Jimmy Johnson, the franchise-changing Herschel Walker trade, and the enormous challenge of taking over the Chicago Bears after legendary head coach Mike Ditka. From his philosophy to “build the team you want to coach” and evaluating production over measurables to empowering assistants, communicating clearly, developing players, and building lasting relationships, Wannstedt explains how the coaches, players, successes, and setbacks throughout his career shaped the way he led teams in Dallas, Chicago, Miami, and at Pitt.
