Douglas Trumbull - Film as Experience (1987)

A 1987 Japanese-made documentary about special effects genius and occasional Film Director, Douglas Trumbull. This documentary is not listed on IMDB. There are plenty of familiar talking heads featured, the majority of them sadly no longer with us. e.g. Roger Ebert, Robert Wise, Tony Scott, James Horner and Richard Donner. This promotional video seems to have been created to generate excitement for Trumbull’s products and services, especially Showscan, a 70mm 60fps film standard. Unfortunately Trumbull never did manage to obtain the necessary backing to get full-length full-spec Showscan features made. It's like the Orson Wells thing all over again. Early success that for one reason or another never truly got fully realised later. Wells ended up on chat shows and Trumbull made adverts. Note: There were a few damaged sections on this Japanese VHD disc which resulted in Max Headroom type stuttering. These faults have been edited down to a minimum so now shouldn’t impact upon your enjoyment.
