Stepping back into my childhood bedroom feels like visiting a museum where every exhibit is slightly wrong. Old photos, forgotten toys, and letters that don't match my memory. Did that girl ever really exist, or am I just a stranger in her room?
[Lyrics]
[Key of G Minor]
[100 BPM, Trip-Hop Funk Alt-Rock]
[Intro]
[Dusty vinyl crackle, warm acoustic guitar riff, slinky slap bass, driving four-on-the-floor disco kick with trip-hop swing]
[Spoken Word - intimate, hushed, Poe-style whisper]
I turned the knob to my old childhood bedroom.
Stepped inside.
The room smelled like dust, old paper, and a version of myself that no longer existed.
Items of days gone by that hold memories.
I'm standing inside a Museum of Me.
[Verse 1 - Spoken Word / Heavy Funk Groove]
[Active slap bassline, percussive acoustic guitar rhythm, punchy dance kick, vinyl hiss]
[Spoken Word - rhythmic, deadpan delivery]
Exhibit A: A bulletin board covered in old movie tickets and polaroids.
Midnight ticket stub for a movie showing.
Except... I had to sneak out because I was grounded.
And the photo beside it shows a stuffed yellow bear on the pillow.
[All instruments cut out, bare vinyl crackle]
[Hushed whisper, hesitant pause, self-doubting rising inflection]
I thought that toy was green...
[Breathy gasp, confused tone, pitch curves upward]
Wait... wasn't it...?
[Pre-Chorus]
[Soft acoustic guitar strums, driving trip-hop breakbeat snare, funk bass pumps]
[Spoken Word building into Melodic Belt]
(Spoken) A collection of plastic figures lined up on the slightly dusty desk.
(Spoken) A hairline crack runs across the full-length mirror, splitting my grown reflection in three.
(Melodic) It’s from the day he broke up with me and I pushed against it...
[Chorus]
[Full Band: Driving 100 BPM disco-funk drum beat, heavy slap bass, bright acoustic guitar chords]
[Soaring Melodic Singing with layered harmonies]
I touch the cold glass of a dusty snow globe
Viewing a past, I can no longer see in my head
Nostalgia bites like a rusted nail
I don’t remember that girl who lived in this room.
Did she ever exist at all?
[Verse 2 - Trip-Hop Funk Groove / Spoken & Sung Mix]
[Driving syncopated trip-hop beat, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, slinky slap bass]
[Spoken Word - smooth, reflective]
Exhibit B: A stack of folded letters sitting on top of an old wooden music box.
Written in my childhood handwriting, sealed with a sticker.
The envelope says, "Don't ever move away from the house on Elm Street."
[All instruments cut out, bare vinyl crackle]
[Hushed whisper, hesitant pause, self-doubting rising inflection]
But I spent my whole youth trying to get away...
[Breathy gasp, confused tone, pitch curves upward]
Wait... didn't I...?
[Instruments kick back in with Melodic Sung Phrase]
Every object in this room has shifted from what I remember.
[Bridge]
[100 BPM groove holds, syncopated disco-funk snare, acoustic strumming, thumping bass]
[Spoken Word - intense, rhythmic, climbing in energy]
I sit down on the edge of the tiny mattress.
I pull a tin box of old trinkets out from under the bed.
I open the lid, and see my old princess key chain...
[Melodic Sung Belt - high, emotional, raw]
The box has stickers and items of my most important times!
[Guitar Breakdown / Funk Jam]
[Melodic fingerpicked acoustic guitar solo, heavy slap bass groove, driving disco-funk drum break, glitchy vinyl chops]
[Chorus]
[Full Energy: Soaring belted female lead, crisp acoustic rhythm, driving disco-funk kick, high-energy slap bass]
I touch the cold glass of a dusty snow globe
Viewing a past, I can no longer see in my head
Nostalgia bites like a rusted nail
I don’t remember that girl who lived in this room.
Did she ever exist at all?
[Outro]
[Drums shift to dusty trip-hop breakbeat with soft acoustic picking, bassline slows, vinyl crackle swells]
[Spoken Word - quiet, chilling whisper]
I turned off the bedside lamp and closed the door behind me.
Checked my reflection in the hallway mirror on my way out...
The room belongs to a ghost.
[Melodic Sung Whisper]
And I don't think I was ever her.
[Sudden Tape Stop Effect]
