Childgrove ~ Pat Shaw

Childgrove is an English Country Dance first published in Playford's Dancing Master of 1701 and interpreted by Pat Shaw in 1969. According to The Playford Ball, the dance became improper in the 1940s. Originally a proper duple minor longways dance this version is improper. This is similar to Sharp's interpretation except that it makes clear the the siding should be shoulder siding, calls for a left neighbor back to back and suggests to double figure eight at the end. The tune also called, "Childgrove" was published by Playford with the dance. It was performed by Bare Necessities (Earl Gaddis, Mary Lea, Peter Barnes, and Jacqueline Schwab) on the album "A Playford Ball". Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses.
