Big Bear Eagle Cam ~ Shadow & Mrs BB Multiple Morning Duet Vocals 7.26.18

For the first time since Shadow has been coming to the nest, he spent the entire night next to Mrs BB on her branch!! Early in the morning, Mrs is sleeping tucked in and Shadow lets out some brief vocals but she doesn't even wake up. At 0:48 Shadow vocalizes in his raspy yet high pitched voice & Mrs BB joins in for a lovely early morning singing duet!! Shadow hops down to the nest to once again move some sticks ( amazing to watch his fascination with the nest & consistency) he goes back up the branch to join Mrs. There are several short vocals through out the video as they perch together. The next longer beautiful duet is at 6:43 where Shadows higher pitched sopranos are met by Mrs lower altos. 8:54 we see more communication as Shadow shifts on the branch. He takes off to the right at 10:32 and Mrs will leave a couple minutes later in the same direction. We are seeing the beginning stages of courtship behavior with close contact, perching together, greeting vocals and constant togetherness. Dr. Sharpe has stated that sub adults as young as 4 years old have successfully mated & raised a family and in some cases, subs as young as 3 years. Although Mr BB is in the area, he has not been back to the nest in some time. It is not uncommon for males to be absent for a time and return at the beginning of the next breeding season. No current sightings of Stormy. Stay tuned for another episode in "As the nest turns" :) Thank you for watching!
