DAY 1 — UNDERSTANDING THE MINISTRY OF THE SAINTS Key Scripture: Ephesians 4:11–12 Supporting scriptures: 1 Peter 2:9; 1 Corinthians 12:4–7; Colossians 3:23–24. Central teaching: Every believer is called to participate in the work of ministry. 1. What is ministry? The English word ministry carries the idea of service. The Greek New Testament word is diakonia, meaning service, attendance or practical ministry. Ministry is not simply standing behind a pulpit. It includes every legitimate service rendered to God and humanity in obedience to God's Word. Examples include: Preaching and teaching. Evangelism and discipleship. Prayer and intercession. Caring for the needy. Encouraging the discouraged. Giving and supporting Kingdom work. Serving within the local church. 2. Who is qualified to minister? Every genuine believer has been called to serve God. 1 Peter 2:9 describes believers as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and a holy nation. This means that Christianity is not a spectator religion. Every believer has a responsibility. 3. Why must believers be equipped? Because spiritual enthusiasm without spiritual preparation can produce ineffective service. Equipping provides: Biblical knowledge. Spiritual maturity. Character development. Practical ministry skills. Accountability. Practical assignment: Identify three areas where you can serve God within your church or community. Discussion: Are you a participant in God's work or merely a spectator? Prayer: Father, equip me with the knowledge, grace, character and ability to fulfil my responsibility in Your Kingdom.
