Classic TV Theme: Hangin' with Mr Cooper (3 versions)

Mark Cooper (Mark Curry) is a former NBA player who's now a high school coach and substitute teacher, with a soft spot for roommate and eventual fiancé Vanessa (Holly Robinson Peete). Toss in relatives, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and students and you have more than enough for five years of successful sitcomming. After the first season (1992) ABC moved the show to the TGIF block where it was tweaked a bit for the family-friendly audience. A final season of just 13 episodes aired on Saturday nights. The show had three different theme songs over its five year run (end credits did not use music on any episodes we saw). 0:00 Opening titles, season one, extended version. Written by the composing team of Foster and McElroy, this theme song is performed by the show's stars along with the quartet En Vogue. It's less than 40 seconds on most episodes but a few used this longer edit. 1:01 Opening titles, season two. Howard Hewett sang the new theme song: 'Soul Man', composed by Isaac Hayes and David Porter. This was removed sometime after the network run (probably to avoid copyright fees) but we found an audio of so-so quality and put it back. 1:37 Opening titles, seasons 3-5 (stereo). This theme song (also heard on current season two prints) is by Gary Boren and Steve Chesne, performed by Sherwood Ball, Carmen Carter, and Oren Waters.
