We cut what our server sends each player with interest management, as sending everyone the whole world grows with the square of the players. Our bots take trips so that they spread out, the island goes into cells of 32 metres, and each player gets what's near them, measured on my machine and on the VPS. This is episode 20 of a series about building an MMORPG from scratch in C++, with the focus on the engineering around the game. Project website: https://nanommo.nenuadrian.com Code: https://github.com/nenuadrian/nanoMMO All episodes:    • Building an MMO Game - A software engineer...   Previous episode:    • Deploy a C++ game server to a VPS with Doc...   Next episode:    • Consul service discovery for a C++ game se...   Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:43 Last time 1:25 Today 1:58 Everyone hears everyone 2:46 Interest management 3:33 Bots that go places 8:27 Measuring first 9:22 Cells on the server 22:03 Where the time goes 23:08 A shorter view 24:23 Names and levels, once a second 29:10 On the VPS 30:04 Docs 30:43 Wrap-up 31:25 Playing it To host the game server and keep it running all the time, you can use a VPS like the DreamHost one I use (affiliate link): https://click.dreamhost.com/aff_c?off...
