✨ Welcome to my channel Mochipoupée!
I restore antique dolls and vintage toys, sharing DIY techniques.
This doll stayed on my shelf for almost a year.
I wasn’t ready to restore him.
When I finally began the process, I discovered how fragile he truly was. The composition had deteriorated so much that parts of it began to crumble in my hands. At that point, I had to make a decision — continue with a traditional, museum-style restoration, or move toward more modern techniques to preserve what was left.
I chose to save him.
The legs were carefully stabilized, and the internal structure was reinforced using fiberglass fabric and foam to give the doll strength again. I reconstructed the body using unbleached linen, staying close to natural materials while ensuring durability for the future.
For the face, I moved away from traditional brush painting and used pan pastels, resulting in a softer, more lifelike expression.
But something unexpected happened during the process.
As I worked on him, I slowly began to see my little brother — who passed away many years ago — reflected in the doll’s face.
At first, it caught me off guard. Then I chose to embrace it.
Before finishing, I spoke with my mother and asked her if it would make her sad to receive a doll that resembled her. Instead, she welcomed the idea with love.
This restoration became more than a project.
It became a memory, a connection, and a gift.
The outfit he wears was knitted by my mother, making this piece even more personal — something we created and shared together.
