On the eighth anniversary of journalist Gauri Lankesh’s assassination, we bring together a panel of voices to reflect on her life, her courage, and the impunity that continues to shield perpetrators of journalist killings in India. In this conversation, moderated by Dhanya Rajendran of The News Minute, we speak to: Rollo Romig, journalist and author of Pulitzer finalist I Am on the Hit List Asha Devi, wife of slain journalist Rajdev Ranjan Beh Lih Yi, Asia-Pacific Regional Director, Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) Shivsundar, activist and close friend of Gauri Lankesh Together, they examine: Gauri’s legacy as a fearless voice of dissent How impunity functions in India’s justice system The ideological roots of violence against journalists and rationalists Global patterns of silencing and democratic decline The urgent need for mechanisms like fast-track courts to deliver justice This panel is both a remembrance and a call to action to ensure that Gauri’s voice, and the voices of other slain journalists, continue to inspire the fight for truth and accountability.
