The most dangerous meeting you'll have this week is the one where everybody nods.
In Episode 97 of Crossroad Conversations, Matt, Shelby, and Taylor Lewis dig into healthy pushback — why a room full of agreement is usually a warning sign, not a win. If nobody on your team ever tells you no, you don't have loyalty. You have a blind spot with a payroll number attached to it.
But there's a line, and almost nobody defines it out loud. You want pushback in some places and not others. Before a decision, it's input. After a decision, it's something else entirely. The brothers get into where that line sits, how to explain it to a new manager, and the difference between a manager with backbone and a manager relitigating a call you already made.
They also get honest about the other side of it: you only get the pushback you've earned. How a leader reacts the first time somebody speaks up decides whether there's ever a second time — and most leaders punish the messenger once and then spend years wondering why nobody tells them anything.
Three brothers running a four-generation family business together, talking about what happens when two of them disagree in front of a team.
In this episode:
Why silence in a meeting is missing information, not agreement
What a yes-man actually costs a business
The agree-in-the-room, do-nothing-after problem
Where pushback belongs — and where it doesn't
Disagreement vs. insubordination, and how to explain the difference
Why "my door's always open" doesn't get you the truth
Disagree and commit: speak now, then row the same direction
